About this app

Falling Fruit is a 501(c)3 nonprofit based in Boulder, Colorado, USA. All proceeds from sales of the app help pay to keep our servers online. We greatly appreciate your support in keeping the project online!

Our global map of edibles is not the first of its kind, but it aspires to be the world's most comprehensive. While our users contribute locations of their own, we comb the internet for pre-existing knowledge, seeking to unite the efforts of foragers, foresters, and freegans everywhere. The imported datasets range from small neighborhood foraging maps to vast professionally-compiled tree inventories. This amounts to thousands of different types of edibles (most, but not all, plant species) across thousands of cities around the world. Beyond the cultivated and commonplace to the exotic flavors of foreign plants and long-forgotten native plants, foraging in your neighborhood is a journey through time and across cultures.

Falling Fruit is not associated with Fallen Fruit. Fallen Fruit can be found at fallenfruit.org.

I like the service so I got the app. The app is worse than the online version. so many things are not there. I can't even give feedback on the app. Imagine I want to find an apple tree, there are like 50 kinds listed and I can only select one so the 10 apple trees near me don't show up. I also can't favorite certain places or yes so I can remember that they were good. I can't even find my own reviews in the app. Every entry needs to list the season when they are fruiting..most don't right now

I love the concept but the app could use a lot of work. Cannot upload images from gallery. You have to physically be in front of the wild edible to snap a picture of it to upload the image. There's isn't any sort of profile system. Would be nice to have profiles so people can have images and maybe a counter for now many spots they have uploaded. Would be a good incentive for people to start sharing more spots because it's pretty bare. Hope this app improves and doesn't become stagnant.

Nice, though the functionality is lacking in some areas. For example, it should be possible to select an item in the list view and then see that specific item highlighted on the map. I love the idea as I've kept a private fruit map for years, though I think iNaturalist has far more content at the moment, despite not having an edible fruit focus.
