At Google Nest, we make products that are beautiful, helpful and easy to use. The Nest app is no exception.

Control your Nest thermostat, arm and disarm your Nest Secure alarm system, see your home with Nest Cam and receive an alert if Nest Protect goes off – all in one place. And receive notifications on your Android phone or tablet.

Nest uses sensors, algorithms and the location of your phone to do the right thing automatically, turning off the heating and turning on the camera when you leave. Forgotten to set the alarm? It will notice, and send you a Remind me alert.

Ratings and reviews

This app is slow, slow, slow. The app notification can be 5-10 seconds after the door bell rings. Then the app video display can take 5-10 seconds to load. The visitor often is about to leave by the time Nest is up and running. Other complaints: --While looking at past events in portrait display, Nest does not allow zooming or scrolling. --There is no easy way to click on events in landscape mode. Nest forces you to scroll through a timeline and hope you'll spot chimes and people.

It was good as a basic starting point for the hub of a smart home. Over time however, development stagnated and it never evolved. As a result, the app lacks a lot of the features that you think an app for a smart home should have. Those features that you know the data and systems should probably support but just never got built and deployed in updates over the years. The Google Home app is not much better at doing these functions either.

Like, it works, but it makes a lot of choices about my house temperature in the name of economy. That's hit and miss, though it's kinda like suffering for the sake of the environment. Whoever made the call for sliders on the schedule is a mad man. Please swap to focus-based pop up -+ buttons! I can only imagine anyone with a disability trying to adjust that! Also, I don't know what I'm missing to get the system to follow my phone's location, but I can't seem manage to make it see me as "home".
