2 things come to mind. 1st, once a trip is selected at least the text option should become available immediately. 2nd, 5 stars should be the default when the rating page comes up. People wont always make sure they give 5 stars even if they are deserved. However, they will always give a negative rating if they are upset. For the people that want to give 5 stars which is most riders, it should be made automatic to eliminate that step and also prevent a bad rating when it wasnt intended.
