This app is in beta so may have small bugs, but if you install it now, it is free forever. Improve your running speed by hunting down virtual pets. Suitable for all fitness levels from slow walkers to Olympic athletes there are pets for everybody to catch. Some pets can only be found in certain locations and users can create and release their own pets for others to chase. Review your recorded chases online and keep log afterwards.

🏃‍♂️ Real-Time Tracking During Chases

When you start a hunt or training run, PetHunter begins recording your location using a foreground service. This allows the app to simulate the pet’s movement, track your speed and distance, and generate an accurate GPX file — even if your screen turns off or the app is backgrounded.

The location service only starts when the user actively begins a chase, and it stops as soon as the chase ends. This ensures your running session is properly recorded from start to finish, even with your phone in your pocket.
The app is also a gps recorder that will record your run so it can be replayed afterwards on the pethunter website, this also shows the pet being run down and if it got caught or if it got away.

Each pet has a distance level from 100 metres, 1k, 5k, 10k, half marathon up to ultra marathon distance. And in each distance category there are 20 levels from slow walk level up to world record speed levels. you can improve your distance and running speed in each distance by selecting a higher distance and higher level, your current highest level is always selected by default, so you can easily just select the next level up. A profile is kept on the website for your level at every distance.

Every level and class has at least 1 unique pet and more are added all the time. In training mode you get the training pets every time, but in hunting mode, this is where it becomes more fun because you get to hunt unique pets , some that can only be caught in specific areas, towns, cities, counties or countries.

On top if this people can create their own pets and release them to be hunted by others. You can then track the pet you have released to see how many people have managed to catch it. For example you can upload a photo of your family pet and release it in your local town or anywhere in the world, select location and radius by clicking on a map and release it.

There is a social aspect on the website, as you can invite friends who also use the app to see your activities and see what pets you caught and watch the replay of your recorded runs.

New features are being added all the time and at the moment this running app is in beta so is free and has no ads. There are many new ideas and challenges that are planned on being added to the app.
