I decided to try Immich because Google photos was becoming too expensive for me. Even without all of the editing tools, the interface is very similar. Setting up the server is not a small task, but once it's up and running, the app works great for backup and viewing your image and video assets. I had an issue with delete not working, but found it was a permissions problem on the server, not the app itself. Can't wait to see what else the dev team has in mind to keep enhancing it.

Spinning up an Immich server through containers can be a bit difficult for beginners but with a little patience and planning you can get this going and have 0 regrets. Self hosting is the way to go in today's subscription economy. My only complaint with the app so far is it's slow to recognize new files (taking photos and videos) and background uploads can be spotty at times with large jobs. But again, a little patience is due. It is, after all, still in development and constantly improving.

the app works perfectly on my Galaxy tab s9 fe. the app works intermittently on my Galaxy s22 Ultra, obviously something is happening with the app and my phone, its extremely slow to open and often decides that there aren't folders setup to sync. I've done reinstalls a couple times with the same symptoms. webapp works great but no auto syncing.
