About this app

Mailbox is a receive-only inbox for messages from verified organizations in Jamaica. If something is in your Mailbox, a verified organization put it there: not a forwarded voice note, not a stranger with a new number. Every message shows who sent it, with a verified mark.

Choose who reaches you

Open the Channels tab and subscribe to the organizations you want to hear from: government agencies, NGOs and businesses. Their notices land in your inbox, and subscribing brings in that day's messages you missed. Unsubscribe and they stop.

An emergency or area notice can also go to everyone inside an affected area, or to everyone on the platform, whether or not you subscribe.

Four kinds of message

Emergency in red, with its own Alerts tab. Official in blue. Informational in grey. Commercial in purple. Emergency and official notices come with a high-priority notification; promotions stay quiet, so a sale never buzzes like a flood warning.

When it is urgent

- The Alerts tab holds only the emergencies you have not acknowledged yet.
- When a sender asks you to confirm an alert, tap Acknowledge in the message or from the notification, without opening the app.
- An ongoing emergency shows as one live notification that updates in place: status, your distance to the zone, peak time and the nearest shelter.
- Drills are tagged TEST, so a drill is never mistaken for the real thing.

When the network is gone

- Turn on Offline emergency alerts and warning zones are saved on your phone. Enter one with no signal and Mailbox can still raise the cached alert using GPS.
- The shelter locator is a sketch that needs no data: you, the shelter, the direction and the distance. It is a diagram, not a street map; tap through to your maps app for directions.

Also in your inbox

- All 14 parishes. Pick yours at sign-up so senders can reach your area.
- Weather advisories for the Kingston area, with a 3-day outlook.
- Jamaican news headlines with an excerpt and a link, in a fast in-app reader.
- Photos, video and audio play inside the message; PDFs open in a built-in viewer.
- New messages appear without a refresh. Search, filter to unread, and swipe to archive. Archiving never deletes.
- One switch quiets everything except emergencies.

Receive only

Mailbox is one-way. No reply, no chat, no comments, no forwarding, and no user can message another. Organizations publish, you read.

Your account

Sign up with your phone, email, name, parish and a password, and confirm the six-digit code we email you. Delete your account and its data from Profile at any time.

Where the content comes from

Mailbox is published by Yassuh, an independent private company.

Please read

Do not rely on Mailbox as your only source of emergency information. Delivery depends on your network, your device settings and the push service, and cannot be guaranteed. Keep following ODPEM (odpem.org.jm), the Meteorological Service of Jamaica (metservice.gov.jm), local radio and TV, and the instructions of the emergency services.

Background location

Offline emergency alerts is optional and off by default. If you turn it on, Mailbox collects location data in the background, even when the app is closed or not in use, to check whether you have entered an alert zone saved on your phone. You can turn it off in Profile.
Verified notices for your parish. Emergency alerts that can work offline.
