About this app

Rampart is a digital watch face with swords for hour marks and a castle wall along its foot. Under the medieval dress it answers one complaint, and it answers it completely: nothing on this dial is fixed furniture.

WHY THIS FACE EXISTS
Data-heavy faces tend to advertise a few slots you can change while quietly hard-coding everything else - the date block, the battery, the second time zone, the app shortcuts. You buy the face, you go to swap the one reading you do not want, and you cannot. Rampart has no such readings.

FIVE COMPLICATION SLOTS
Three of them carry data. One is the band above the time; two sit side by side under the seconds rule. Each accepts short text, long text, a ranged value, a monochromatic image or a small image - so a goal arc fits, and so does a plain temperature.
Two more are app-shortcut slots, on the left and right flanks. Those take an icon and nothing else: point one at an app, then tap it to open that app.
All five are yours to change and any of them may be left empty.

AN EMPTY SLOT IS NOT AN EMPTY BOX
This is the part that makes the rest safe. Leave a data slot unassigned and the face fills it in itself, from something it can always work out on its own: the date above the time, the battery on the left, the week number on the right. No dashes, no zeroes, no blank rectangle - not on the day you install it, and not after you clear a slot you had been using.
The two shortcut slots do the opposite and disappear entirely when unused, so an unassigned dial is not carrying two empty holes where icons ought to be.

SIX COLOURWAYS, AND THEY HAVE NAMES
Greenwood, Torchlight, Frostwatch, Garnet, Parchment and Chainmail. You choose by name instead of scrolling a numbered list, and each one was measured for contrast against the dial before it shipped.

THE DIAL
Swords mark all twelve hours, with four brighter marks at the quarters and a thin rule under the time carrying the seconds. Along the bottom stands a castle skyline. If you would rather have the bare arc, switch the castle off in Customize - it is a setting, not a decision made for you.

ALWAYS-ON
Three styles. Rampart keeps the ranging ring, the grown clock and the date. Large grows the clock and drops the rest. Minimal is the quietest screen this face can draw. Four brightness levels sit underneath for the dial furniture.

CUSTOMIZE, ON THE WATCH
Six settings, 20 options: colourway, hour format, seconds rule, always-on style, dial brightness and the castle. Every one of them is a dial in Customize on the watch itself. No phone app, no account, no sign-in.

WHAT IT DOES NOT DO
It reads no weather source of its own, so it never asks for your location and never shows -- while it waits for one. Want weather on the dial? Put it in a complication and the provider you already trust supplies it. Calories and distance are not readings Watch Face Format publishes; those go in a complication too. The face's own labels are English, while the weekday and month follow your watch's language.

Wear OS 5 and 6, API 34 and above, designed for round watches. It runs on the watch alone - no companion phone app, nothing to buy twice. One-time purchase: no ads, no subscription, no account, no tracking.

Every reading is a complication you can change. No slot ever looks empty.

What’s new

Version 1.0.

Every reading is a complication you can reassign: the date band and both values under the seconds rule. Five slots - three for data, two for app shortcuts.
Leave one unassigned and it still shows something, because the face falls back to a reading it works out itself. No slot can look empty.
Six named colourways, a castle skyline you can switch off, three always-on styles, four brightness levels. Six settings, 20 options, all on the watch.
