Is it really free?
Yep! Ameelio believes that staying connected with your loved ones and paying for basic needs shouldn't be a tradeoff. You'll never have to pay for a video or voice call with us.

So, what is Ameelio anyway?
Ameelio is a nonprofit, and our mission is to build free-to-use communications technology to create a more humane and rehabilitative corrections system. You may recognize the name from our free mailing app 'Ameelio Mail: Photos to Prison', but we're only getting started.

When will Ameelio Connect be available in my facility?
If your loved one isn't incarcerated at facilities offering our service in Iowa, Indiana, Colorado, Illinois, or Karachi, Pakistan, don't worry too much. Ameelio is working hard with policymakers and correctional departments across the US and globally to make free video and voice calling a reality for everyone!

*In order to use the service, you must first receive authorization from the facility as an approved visitor.

Took me a min. to figure out how to be able to join call, because I already had the app open, so had to go out and come back in. Once I joined the call tho, picture quality and audio quality were perfect! Had zero issues with either and enjoyed seeing as well as hearing from my loved one. The ONLY issue I had w/ entire thing was from the end of the correctional facility requiring me to submit 4 photos with my I.D., claiming picture wasn't clear enough, when it CLEARLY WAS. I recommend this app.

I find it interesting that while going through several reviews, every one of them have support responses and then any that mention that the app is stating 'invalid birthday,' there's no support response. I can't set up my account due to the birthday issue and because everytime I attempt to submit a picture of my photo ID, I am kicked out of that app! Absolutely not impressed and super annoyed!!!!!!

Never never NEVER has a stable connection. It freezes repeatedly throughout the visit...making a 50 minute visit roughly 10-15 mins of actual visiting; the rest of the time is spent reconnecting and restarting devices. It makes my loved one frustrated, and it happens no matter where I am. Have reached out to customer care via email, got no response, so I used social media, where I was only redirected to email. Good concept, but VERY poor execution of intended service.
