About this app

DayTally counts the days you spend in each country — precisely, and entirely on your device.

If your tax residency depends on day counts, guessing is expensive. DayTally keeps the record you would otherwise have to reconstruct from boarding passes and hotel bills, and shows at any moment how close you are to a limit.

WHAT IT DOES
• Counts days per country to the day, with the rule you choose: presence (arrival and departure day both count) or midnight
• Knows the period a country measures over: calendar year, rolling 12 months, or a sliding X-in-Y window
• Computes the US Substantial Presence Test with its exact weighting, including the 31-day gate
• Warns you before you cross a limit — not after
• Researched day limits for many countries, with the source noted, ready to apply in one tap
• Track visas with their remaining time, minimum-days rules and entry deadlines

RECORD WITHOUT TYPING
• Scan a boarding pass — photo, image file or PDF. The barcode is read on your device; airports, flight number and date fill themselves in
• Optional automatic country detection by coarse location, resolved on the device against bundled map data
• Import from CSV or Google Timeline, reviewed row by row before anything counts

PRIVACY IS NOT A SETTING HERE
DayTally has no internet permission. Not "we promise not to send anything" — the app is technically incapable of it. No account, no sign-up, no analytics, no ads, no tracking. Your data lives in the app's private storage and goes nowhere else.

Backups are files you create yourself, encrypted with AES-256-GCM and your own passphrase. Put them in your own cloud folder if you like — encrypted, they are only useful to you. There is no recovery without the passphrase, and we hold no key.

What’s new

• Stays in the same country are no longer merged when a stay in another country lies between them (layovers included). Manual corrections now survive saving; the import behaves the same way.
• New “Split” action in the conflict check: an entry that encloses a stay in another country is divided into the time before and after it – with Undo.
