Best paper, good app It's one of the only newspapers I would take seriously these days. The app isn't perfect, but has no major problems to the point I would dock a star.
Great paper but... Great paper, but if you use the £1 offer don't forget to cancel. I think the subscription is over priced considering the availability of financial news. £10 would suffice.
Great content, rubbish app As of June 2016 this app remains infuriating. Works fine when linked to Internet on a decent connection but download to read offline just does not work properly. And the adverts are still as irritating as ever - endlessly and boringly repeated, slow loading, and the point at which this buggy app tends to crash. All in all this amounts to very poor service given the cost of the subscription. Oh, and don't bother ringing the Help desk - I'm surprised they don't just have a recorded message saying "delete the cache, uninstall and reinstall to solve your problem" (it doesn't by the way). Hopeless.
Flakey tat blocks access to brilliant content. Here's my fix. I love my FT and have paid for a subscription for over a year. There is a crippling bug in the Android app, which has been there all this time. When I first got it I raised it with support and it is well known to them: they gave me their workaround. A year later I still have to mess around like this and it limits my enjoyment a great deal. You will find sometimes it says your subscription doesn't include a page you want to view. You know full well your subscription does include it. The fix is: 1. Force close the app. 2. Clear app data and cache. 3. Reload app, switch to live, and then switch back to the edition you paid for. Then you can access the article. This has gone on so long I have upgraded my devices and they have then had OS upgrades. It's the same on all of them. It sounds ok, but think about it. Did you download articles to view offline (say when you're travelling, this is why I pay for it)? Well they are gone now and you need to find WiFi to continue reading. Also it clears your settings, for example the download articles and images setting You have to manually turn this on every time. Fix it FT!
Good but not great In general, I prefer the FT to the WSJ but the WSJ app does a better job of organizing their content, downloading offline, and provides a dark background option. While I understand desire to keep the iconic pink as background, the FT app needs to up its game so the reader can easily access all of the excellent content.
Great broadsheet app Clear, easy to use, well laid out, regularly updated, no access or login issues.
