If you opt in to the Gemini app, it will replace your Google Assistant as the primary assistant on the phone. Some Google Assistant voice features aren't available through the Gemini app yet — including controlling media and routines. You can switch back to Google Assistant in settings.

the voice feature on the app routinely cuts me off when I'm speaking, and does not keep any of what I've said in memory. there have been a lot of lost conversations because of this. very frustrating. also the responses can be incredibly slow, especially for the advanced model. I should also clarify using any form of voice transcription is not working correctly within the app. and I have a pixel 9 phone so theoretically it should work flawless. I do not have issues with it on the MacBook web page

Sadly forced in the latest update to android, but forces itself in ways that undo the previously intuitive hands-free features. giving me AI, which makes mistakes, instead of hands-free, which was highly tuned to a good experience and allowed me to do voice operations while driving with out concern, is a major downgrade. AI buzzwords is not a valid justification for properly functioning software. I don't want software to make mistakes. I want to be able to rely on it.

So my biggest gripe with this app. /ai model is that a mult? i? what is it building? at least dollar company shouldn't be putting out an AI model that is capable of less and functions worse than my phone assistant does, and since getting a Google phone... has performed even more poorly. They're doing tiny incremental improvements, but for as much as they've had in previous product capabilities, the money to invest in it, and the amount of time that they've been in the game, huge disappointment
