About this app

Halation turns your phone into a shelf of analog cameras.

This is not a filter app. There are no LUT files, no downloaded packs and no AI. Every look is a film model that runs on your phone's GPU in real time: each colour layer has its own characteristic curve, the layers cross, highlights lose colour as they approach the shoulder, and grain is built from three separate layers with the blue one coarsest — the way film actually behaves.

Pick a camera, not a filter. Choosing a body changes everything at once: its film, its lens, its gate, its flash and its frame.

THE SHELF — 14 CAMERAS
• COAST 35 — everyday 35mm. Warm, full, safe.
• SILVER 35 — black & white. Coarse grain, dark skies.
• SINGLE USE 98 — flash always on, date stamped, the body leaks light.
• SUPER 8 — 8mm reel. The gate weaves, dust drifts.
• CCD 2005 — digital compact. No grain, hard flash, date in the corner.
• SLIDE 100 — slide film. Deep blacks, vivid colour, fine grain.
• NIGHT — night body. Lights bleed red and leave a horizontal streak.
• SQUARE 6×6 — medium format. Clean, wide tonality, square frame.
• INSTANT — instant print. Square card, soft lens, waits to develop.
• TOY — plastic toy. Fisheye, skewed colour, heavy vignette.
• HALF FRAME — two exposures side by side, visibly coarse grain.
• RED DUST — copper-red shift, strong leak. Hard and warm.
• 16MM — cine stock. Lifted blacks, strong bleed.
• TAPE VHS — tape. Smeared colour, clock in the corner.

LENSES AND FLASH
Six lenses that are real optics, not labels: fisheye and wide barrel distortion, a three-way prism ghost, an anamorphic horizontal streak, and a soft veil. Six coloured flashes that fall off with distance, exactly as you see them in the viewfinder.

THE DARKROOM
Open up the film behind any camera. Nineteen controls — curve slope, curve spread, base and ceiling density, highlight bleach, grain size and structure, acutance, blue-layer softness, halation and its spread, vignette, chromatic aberration, light leak. Every slider starts from that camera's own value, so you build on what you have rather than starting from zero.

Name your recipe and it joins the shelf next to the built-in cameras. Saving also gives you a short share code beginning with CAM- — that code IS the recipe. Paste it anywhere; anyone who pastes it back gets the same look. No server, no account, no upload.

PHOTO
Push and pull processing, double exposure, tap to focus, exposure compensation, batch conversion, film gates drawn in code (35mm perforations, 8mm gate, 6×6, instant print, half frame) and an optional developing delay.

VIDEO
8mm, 16mm and VHS bodies record with a temporal film layer — gate weave, density flicker, dust and scratches — plus a procedural projector sound. Recording is encoded on the device.

COMPARE
One tap shows the same live frame through every camera on the shelf, side by side. It is the fastest way to find the look you want.

WORKS OFFLINE
Halation makes no network requests of its own. No account, no sign-up, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no microphone permission. Your photos are processed on your phone and never leave it.

FREE AND PRO
Free: four cameras, the full engine, saving with a small watermark.
Halation Pro: all 14 cameras, all lenses and flashes, the Darkroom, no watermark, full resolution photos and video up to 3 minutes at 1080p.

Pro is a subscription with a 3-day free trial: weekly, monthly or yearly (prices may vary by country). Payment is charged to your Google Play account when the trial ends. It renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. Manage or cancel it any time in Google Play > Subscriptions.

HONESTY
Halation is a procedural simulation. It does not use scans of, or data sampled from, any manufacturer's film stock, and it is not affiliated with any camera or film company. All camera and film names are our own.
Real film curves, not filters. 14 analog cameras that work fully offline.
