About this app

Learn to write Chinese characters with Skritter, whether you have a strong grasp of written Chinese and want to remember the characters better or are a beginner who doesn’t know where to start.

Skritter has existed for more than 10 years, and for a good reason: our learners are amazing! They help us with feedback, which allows us to create what we think is the best way to learn to write Chinese out there!

If you have tried to write Chinese before, you probably noticed that it requires us to learn characters rather than the roman alphabet we know from English. You can learn it through our “decks” (similar to a card deck) based on topics and difficulty.

Deck examples:
- Ordering or making coffee or tea (so you can get your morning caffeine fix)
- Chinese Stroke Order (master the rules quickly and efficiently)
- HSK 1-6
- More advanced topics like Yoga and talking about your Emotions
- And many more…

First, you learn a character’s meaning, reading, and tone; then practice writing it. Before you know it, you’ll want to learn thousands of characters. Try our app and see for yourself why thousands of people use it every day.

Have questions, problems, or feedback? We would love to hear from you. Reach out to us at team@skritter.com

Edit: I still lost my progress and reviewed words, but it has been a good 6 months now and I haven't had additional sync issues. I've increased my rating to 5 stars. Really useful app. ------ It's really a great app and it probably teaches me the most Chinese in a slightly addicting way. One complaint I have is that it's not uncommon for app updates to break syncing. This can cause you to lose your streak, and any record of what you've done since the sync broke. I've found this very frustrating.

I use this daily and would be thrilled if it simply did what it's supposed to, but it's a frustrating, buggy mess. They've gotten somewhat more responsive to bug reports, but it's still riddled with database corruption errors, tests/reviews that don't include all of the cards they're supposed to (kind of a big deal!), incorrect dictionary entries, etc. Also inexplicably slow; I think the developers are just in over their heads. Not really worth $100/yr, and I wish I'd invested my time in Anki.

I've used the iOS version of this app for about three years and it was my favourite way to study, not just Chinese, but any language. It makes studying easy and entertaining and it works really well as long as you a consistent. I recently bought an Android phone and I've been really disappointed at how much worse the Android version is than the iOS version. Some functions are missing and using it is no where near as easy and smooth. That being said it's still the best Chinese flashcard.

Hi Kirean-- thanks for your review! Have you tried the beta version out yet? We're hoping you like it better than the original iOS version. You can update by going to the Play Store page for Skritter (from your device), and then by scrolling down and tapping the green button in the beta participation area. Shoot us an email at team@skritter.com!
