About this app

METRO is the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, serving the Houston, Texas region with safe, clean, reliable, accessible and friendly public transportation services.

The official RideMETRO app allows you to plan and manage your trip on Local bus, Park & Ride bus or METRORail. It requires a cellular network or wireless connection.

By allowing the app to access your location, you’ll see:

• Nearby bus and rail routes
• Real-time arrival estimates for nearby buses
• Scheduled arrival times for nearby trains

You can plan your trip by tapping the trip planning icon in the upper right area of the map.

The app’s unique My Stop Technology connects with thousands of wayfinding beacons in the METRO service area to deliver notifications or pulse vibrations when you’re approaching your:

• Starting bus stop or METRORail platform
• Transfer point (if applicable)
• Destination bus stop or METRORail platform

Just plan your trip and watch or listen to your phone to monitor progress.

Dangerously misleading in a crisis. Though useful under normal circumstances the app doesn't do a good job of notifying when the metro shuts down (such as due to weather). It keeps calculating arrivals as if the buses were still running. This can string the user along with false hope of evacuation until your phone dies, the hotels are full, and you're facing the prospect of a night on the streets.

Depending on the bus, tracking may or may not be available. Route schedules need a lot of updating. I'm early to the scheduled arrival time most of the time only to find out it came early 10-15 minutes ago. You just kind of have to get lucky and know the drivers personally to ask them when they arrive to your bus stop. They will all day something different. The only ones that are accurate are P&R buses.

I'm tired of being shown live time estimates that are inaccurate. The app will display in green that the bus is 15 minutes away, then when I open it again 30 seconds later the bus has teleported and it's already at the stop and I've missed my bus. I assume this is because my phone lost connection and it's using an old estimate, but it really should not be rendering old estimates on the screen. If the app is refreshing time estimates, SHOW A LOADING SIGN. I shouldn't have to second guess times

Hi Gavin, Thanks for your comment. The app provides an estimate of real-time arrivals for buses and for now, only a scheduled time of arrival for trains. It may not be precise in all cases. However, we work very hard to make it as accurate as possible, as often as possible. Please call Customer Service at 713-635-4000 for additional support.
