Snap goes beyond generic ingredient databases. Set up your profile once and every scan checks ingredients against your specific needs:

- Skin type — oily, dry, sensitive, combination, acne-prone
- Allergies — fragrances, parabens, sulfates, nuts, gluten, nickel, and more
- Pregnancy — highlights ingredients commonly avoided during pregnancy, such as retinoids and salicylic acid
- Breastfeeding — highlights ingredients commonly avoided while nursing
- Personal concerns — set conditions like sensitivity or hormonal concerns, and Snap flags relevant irritants to watch out for

CONTEXT-AWARE SCORING

Not all products touch your skin the same way. Snap adjusts risk scores based on how the product is used:

- Leave-on products (moisturizers, serums) — full risk assessment
- Rinse-off products (shampoo, face wash) — reduced risk due to shorter contact
- Brief contact (wax strips, masks) — significantly reduced risk
- Decorative cosmetics (lipstick, eyeshadow) — adjusted for surface application

This means a "moderate risk" ingredient in your daily cream is treated differently than the same ingredient in a shampoo you rinse off in 30 seconds.

HOW SCORING WORKS
Each ingredient is assigned a risk level:
- Green (Low Risk) — well-studied, generally safe
- Yellow (Limited Risk) — minor concerns for some users
- Orange (Moderate Risk) — notable concerns, use with awareness
- Red (High Risk) — significant safety concerns

Your product's overall score (0–100) is calculated from all ingredients combined, adjusted for product type, and capped based on the worst ingredient present.
