About this app

The Steer Clear® app is part of a comprehensive program that helps young drivers reinforce positive driving behavior. Young drivers, under age 25, who complete the Steer Clear® Safe Driver Program, may be eligible for an adjustment to the premium on their State Farm® auto insurance. The Steer Clear mobile application tracks a driver's progress through pre-set learning modules of updated content including topics such as Bluetooth, distracted driving (texting/games), and special driving situations. Drivers will no longer need to manually record their trips if the program is conducted through this app. Throughout their trips, drivers will be scored and given feedback on their braking, acceleration, and cornering. Once a driver completes the program, they will receive a program completion certificate that they can text, email, or bring into the agent's office.  Badges have been added to Steer Clear to recognize and reward a variety of specific driving accomplishments.  The badges will help align users to shared goals of the app, such as scoring a certain percentage on a specific driving behavior, while acting as virtual, motivational status symbols.

I got this app to complete it before I got added to my families insurance. The first trip I used to app for, the app said "can't save trip" even though it was 5 miles. Then, the next day I drove for almost 3 hours and the app barely tracked the trip. It had a third of the amount of driving time I actually did. The app has lots of bugs. Even the videos in the module section didn't work.

Apparently there's a 60 day window to complete this program. I found out because the day before my monthly payment was due, the discount was yanked from my account and an extra $100 was added to my bill. No warning. Nothing!! Add some kind of warning system that says how much time you have to complete the app! Some of us have a strict budget. My daughter only had 3 hours of drive time left, but nope! No warning about how much time is given or warning its almost up to complete the program.

I had a lot of problems with the app overall. At first it gave me accurate scores but then it started to not work because it would say I drove under a mile. I fixed that by going to Google Maps before stopping the drive so it knew my location. The other problem I had was it wouldn't give accurate scores at all. Lots of my scores were around 50 and that wasn't accurate to my driving at all. I finally finished the 5 hours of driving, but had a lot of trouble along the way.

In this release, we updated the Home and Trips dashboards. We also fixed minor defects found in the app.
