About this app
Synapse creates flashcards from inserted text, a PDF, or a photograph of a page and reviews them using the SM-2 method, the same method behind Anki. Everything runs on the device.
CREATING CARDS
• Insert text, open a PDF, or photograph a page (text recognition runs on the device; no image leaves it for recognition).
• Synapse recognizes definitions, legal texts, bullet points, formulas, and vocabulary lists and creates flashcards from them—each with source information and confidence level.
• Each recognized flashcard can be edited or discarded before being added.
REVIEWING USING SM-2
• The complete review schedule based on SuperMemo SM-2, with a daily schedule and priority sorting.
• Manually create and edit cards and stacks, unlimited times.
STATISTICS
• Retention rate with a 95% confidence interval based on Wilson—first responses to a new card are not counted; otherwise, the rate does not reflect retention. After 20 evaluated repetitions, it is considered reliable.
• Load prediction: how many cards will be due in the coming weeks.
• Duplicate detection across multiple decks, nesting or merging decks without losing the learning progress of the cards.
EXPORT
• All cards as Markdown, anytime and completely.
• Additionally as Anki text import (TSV) and CSV for spreadsheet programs.
LIMITATIONS, TO BE HONEST
Synapse doesn't create cards with a language model and doesn't evaluate answers based on content—the analysis uses fixed patterns, and the repetition follows a fixed algorithm. You check whether a recognized card is correct yourself before importing it.
NO ACCOUNT, NO SERVER
• The database is stored on the device using SQLCipher encryption—no account, no registration.
• No server to which anything could be transferred, so no advertising and no analytics data.
• Completely free: no locked features, no subscription, no limit on cards or decks.
