About this app

HA Automotive puts the devices from your own Home Assistant server on your car's built-in screen, and keeps them usable while you drive.

It runs on cars with Android Automotive OS. There is no phone in the loop and no cloud service in the middle: the car talks to your server directly.

WHILE DRIVING

The driving screen is drawn by the Google Automotive App Host, so it always follows the layout your car is certified for. Every device is one control with a state icon, its name and its current value.

• Lights, switches, fans, covers, climate: one touch turns them on or off
• Locks: one touch locks or unlocks
• Scenes, scripts and buttons: one touch runs them
• Alarm panels: the tile shows the current state and opens the list of modes, so nothing gets armed or disarmed by a distracted tap
• Sensors and binary sensors: doors, motion, smoke, water, temperature, read at a glance

The icon carries the state, not just the type: a bulb with or without rays, an open or closed padlock, a raised or lowered shutter, a full or crossed shield.

WHILE PARKED

Sign in to your Home Assistant instance, pick which devices reach the driving screen and in which order, and set the appearance. This part of the app is blocked by the car while you are moving. That is deliberate, and it is what keeps the driving part simple.

NOT AN OFFICIAL HOME ASSISTANT APP

This app is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by the Home Assistant project, Nabu Casa, or any car manufacturer. "Home Assistant" is used only to describe the software this app connects to.
