About this app

OsmAnd is an offline world map application based on OpenStreetMap (OSM), which allows you to navigate taking into account the preferred roads and vehicle dimensions. Plan routes based on inclines and record GPX tracks without an internet connection.
OsmAnd is an open source app. We do not collect user data and you decide what data the app will have access to.

Ratings and reviews

Best app for hiking and cycling, especially with the contour lines plugin. I just wish they would update the renderer to something with smoother performance. Scrolling and zooming can be a nightmare. Also i would like if the amount of detail displayed could be "intelligently" determined based on the amount of detail that could be possibly shown: for instance, in a relatively flat area, maybe show a contour line every 10 meters, while for steep areas, maybe every 100 meters. Just a thought...

Great app... could do with an Extra search option though. Why is it not possible to enter coordinates of latitude and longitude and then press search which adds a marker on the map of the coordinates you just entered. Pretty please. Then you can download the map offline and use a GPS like those found in SUUNTO watches for example which can display Lat Long coordinates, And then enter them into OSMAnd, making this a hiking outdoor Nav tool.

I finally found out how to change the rendering engine to OpenGL, and it is so much better than when I last reviewed this, making this an unquestionable keeper now. (In short, I was disappointed coming from OsmAnd on iPhone.) If first time, I highly recommend going into OsmAnd settings and changing this. Although this isn't my app of choice for looking up addresses, offline maps and offline navigation do work excellently, esp. for urban/utility cycling. Also fun to explore around in sometimes.
