About this app

You wake up and wonder how the night sounded. Was there snoring? Long quiet stretches? Did your child sleep calmly? NightEar records the sounds in the room overnight and in the morning shows you the moments worth listening to.

WHAT IT DOES
• Records the room all night with the phone next to the bed. A permanent notification shows that recording is on, and a short placement test checks the phone can hear breathing.
• In the morning it marks snoring, loud sounds and quiet moments when no breathing sound was heard, according to rules you set yourself – for example how long a silence has to be.
• Every moment can be played back, with a spectrogram and the loudness of breathing around it, so you can hear for yourself what happened.
• Shows the night on one timeline: snoring, breathing rhythm, calm and restless sleep. Browse and listen to the whole night, zoomed in down to half a minute.
• Long loud sounds such as crying or talking and long silences with no breathing heard are left out of the results, so they do not distort the night. Falling asleep and waking up are left out too: in a child's night by sound, in an adult's night the first 30 and the last 5 minutes.
• Notes and tags for each night – medicine, a cold, a late dinner – also written during the night.
• History of your nights with your usual night, so a single night can be compared with your own normal, and trends over weeks and months. Nights with a tag can be compared with nights without it.

FOR SEVERAL PEOPLE, ADULTS AND CHILDREN
Keep nights for yourself, your partner and your child, each with an adult or a child profile; the rules and texts follow the profile. The child profile is for children aged one year and older. NightEar is not a baby monitor or a breathing monitor: it does not watch breathing in real time, wakes no one at night and gives no warnings – results come only in the morning.

SHARE IT
For nights unlocked with a purchase or a subscription, save a summary as a PDF to print, optionally with the audio clips, or as one HTML file with charts and audio that opens in any browser, or save the whole recording. With a subscription you can also share a summary with a link valid for two days: it is encrypted on your phone, with a password if you choose one, and the server cannot read it.

YOUR RECORDINGS STAY WITH YOU
No account. Recordings, their analysis and your notes stay on your phone, and the recordings are stored encrypted; the analysis runs on the phone. Moving to a new phone? Save your nights to one encrypted file and load it there – unlocked nights stay unlocked. The server only knows what it needs for free nights, unlocking and purchases, and one button in the settings deletes it.

FREE NIGHTS AND PRICES
Recording is free and unlimited. To see a night's results you unlock it. Every calendar month two nights are free. More nights come in packs, or with a monthly or yearly subscription that unlocks nights up to a limit for each period; the app shows the limit before you pay.

WHAT YOU NEED
An Android phone with a working microphone, placed close to the bed, ideally on the charger. The app asks to be left out of battery optimisation so the system does not stop the recording at night. If the recording stops anyway, you can continue the same night. NightEar speaks 18 languages.

IMPORTANT
NightEar is a sleep sound diary. It is not a medical device and does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. A quiet moment in a recording only means that the microphone did not pick up a breathing sound. If you are worried about your sleep or your child's sleep, talk to a doctor.

Data safety

Safety starts with understanding how developers collect and share your data. Data privacy and security practices may vary based on your use, region, and age. The developer provided this information and may update it over time.

Financial info, App activity and 2 others
  • Data is encrypted in transit
  • You can request that data be deleted

What’s new

• Gaps in a recording (microphone off, app restart, pause) show as “no recording” in the overview, PDF and HTML and never count as quiet moments or restless sleep.
• Nights without sound or with a damaged part are analysed reliably.
• Deleting a night also deletes its summaries on the web.
• “Compared with the usual night” instead of an index.
• Adults: marked silences start at 10 s.
• Phone placement on Home matches the test result.
• More reliable unlocking, purchases and web publishing.
