1、血的物質基礎《內經》中說：「中焦受氣取汁，變化而赤，是謂血。」這段原文是對血的生成的概括。總結各段經文，可把生成血的物質基礎歸納為四大類：

（1）水穀精微：是指從飲食中得到的營養物質。飲食入胃，被受納，腐熟，消化，又經脾的運化、轉輸而成水穀之精微。故而中醫常謂：「脾胃是氣血生化之源」、「氣血同源」。

（2）營氣：營氣是行於脈中的營養之氣，相當於血液中的有效成分。由於營氣的作用，能分泌津液，行於脈中與肺之清氣相合，變化成赤色而為血。

（3）津液：津液也受脾氣之上輸，蒸化而泌之於肺脈。它滲入於脈，參與血液的組成，並維持和調節血液的濃度。
