世界貿易組織 (WTO) 發佈最新一期全球貿易趨勢評估報告「貨物貿易晴雨表」指出， 2020 年第二季度， 全球貨物貿易出現歷史性下滑， 但其他指標顯示， 第三季度全球貨物貿易及產出將出現部分上升， 全球貿易初現復甦跡象， 但復甦力度和趨勢仍具有高度不確定性。
世貿組織 6 月份統計數據顯示， 今年第一季度和第二季度全球貨物貿易量下降 14%。按照這個估算， 再加上最新一期「貨物貿易晴雨表」讀數， 預計今年全球貨物貿易量比 2019 年萎縮了13%。
全球貿易趨勢或不至於過於悲觀， 但將遠低於疫情前的趨勢。世貿組織經濟學家在 6 月份曾警告， 新冠肺炎疫情造成的嚴重經濟損失表明， 有關 2021 年全球貿易將出現強勁 V 形反彈的預測可能過於樂觀。由於經濟和貿易政策以及疫情演變的不確定性仍在上升， 全球貿易出現 L 形復甦仍是可能的狀況， 即經歷下滑之後在一定增速上保持平穩運行。
