I like the app since it seems pretty thorough for a self-learning language app. It's got writing practice for the characters, speaking practice for certain phrases/sentences, and review quizzes. The premium features seem pretty good too. However, I knocked off a star because I don't like that even the basic lessons past level 2 are behind the premium paywall. Even if you take the shortcut quiz and unlock the lessons, they're not actually unlocked and still behind the paywall.

Best mandarin learning app, worth paying for, but Ide like a bit more customisability. The app is free to try but to progress youll need the yearly basic subscription, the more general apps like duolingo dont really cover chinese very well as theres a lot of added context that needs explaining. To improve Ide really like to be able to turn more features on and off, they kind of have this for pinyin/hanzi but personally I only want to speak/listen for my partner and don't really care to write etc

I tried Duolingo which is insanely expensive and doesn't really give you much insight into the grammar, pronunciation, or characters of Chinese which is important to truly understanding the language and your Chinese being useful in China. So far, this program has given everything I would expect from a Chinese learning language app. If you want to learn a language seriously, study something that is specific to the language. This app is specifically designed for understanding Chinese!
