FINDING TRAIN TICKETS USING THE NORTHERN TRAIN APP
Finding train tickets with the Northern app’s built-in search function is easy, simply:
• Enter your origin station and the destination you will be travelling to.
• Select the ticket type you want to find (single, return, open return, or flexi & season).
• Select the date and time you will be travelling.
• Add the number of adult / child travellers
• Enter any promo codes you would like to apply to the journey.

Once you enter these details, the Northern app will automatically find you the cheapest train tickets.

Don’t forget about the new Northern family ticket, giving you the chance to travel with your whole family on one ticket. The Northern Family ticket is valid for up to two adults and four children, who are under the age of 15. All you need to do is purchase the ticket through our app and away you go.

Ratings and reviews

Really makes rail ticket purchase a lot less cumbersome on the whole. Also, using the app you can double check that your scheduled train is running or not, if you remember to check that is. Some annoying anomalies with the app. I've lost money having to change bookings because the outbound or return day has jumped a day and I hadn't noticed. Also, I can't see why they still charge £10 admin fee for a journey change, hardly seems fair for an online change that doesn't have staff intervention.

Works ok, but has an irritating bug. Certain journeys will sometimes not appear in the list of results if they are the very next result after the last. Selecting 'later trains' skips ahead slightly, and the journey I want missing. To find the right one, I have to overestimate my arrival time to include future journeys that arrive slightly too late.

The Northern App is definitely the way to go. Trainline are now adding booking fees to every journey and its ridiculous. In the cost of living crisis you'd think they'd be more aware of our financial situations. We rely on public transport to get to work and earn money to live not to spend every last penny on transport. The northern App has saved me money and given peace of mind that I can now afford to travel to work and feed my family.
