Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.

Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.

Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.

Proton Mail in the press:

“Proton Mail is an email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes

“A new email service being developed by a group from MIT that met at CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

Update July 2024: Pretty good email app. Probably could still use more color options. NEEDS A SYNC/DON'T SYNC BUTTON. Could use a default startup folder app &/or an option to display messages by received address. I have this app on multiple devices. I don't always want the app updating in background on all of them (like work vs non work device. Sometimes, I won't want to see messages for ONE (or some) of my specific proton email addresses (again, work vs personal/different work/use device)

Proton mail app. is as easy to use and has most or all of the same options as the biG mail app. I switched some time ago, at least 1.5 years, and love the yhe app. also, I have the VPN with it. They offer a great VPN also. It truly is a win-win, or at least it is for me. I still have my big mail app. though. I put all my bs mail there. the biG Mail app. is good for that. It really has been safe. There have been no info or securitu leaks that I'm aware of, I have moved family over as well. C.H.

Some strange things are happening with communication between the app and desktop browser. A few times now, I'll have a full typed draft of a message saved from desktop, but in the app the same message is blank. It also sent an incomplete message to my mortgage lender yesterday, and I have no idea why.

Hi! This behavior was brought to our developers' attention, and they are looking into the potential causes and solutions for it. In the meantime, try waiting a bit after you finish composing your message to tap 'Send', to allow time for the final changes of the message to be saved successfully. We apologize for the inconvenience.

What's new

- Enforce a secure connection for showing unsecured remote images.
- Expand ellipsised email addresses and display names when expanding message headers
