Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.

Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.

Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.

Proton Mail in the press:

“Proton Mail is an email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes

“A new email service being developed by a group from MIT that met at CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

The new update is definitely an improvement, especially with stability. I'm no longer having a problem with the app locking up if I try to open it by clicking on a new message notification. One thing about the design really needs to be tweaked: the app's status updates, such as when replying to a message, appears on top of the buttons in certain views. So if I reply to an email, I have to wait for the status notification to go away before I can delete, tag, or archive the original message.

Thank you for sharing your feedback on this with us, Michael! We've passed it along to our team internally, to help prioritize future improvements to our rewritten app.

Made an account online. Account got flagged by some automatic spam detection. Support did absolutely nothing about it on the two separate occasions I tried contacting them. They provided almost no details when asked and, in the end, simply stopped responding to me altogether. Edit after developer response: I did talk to real people. No less than four of them. They did next to nothing.

Accounts can be temporarily locked for a variety of reasons, including for security (for example, if we detect suspicious activity like an account takeover attempt). If it's an error, you can always reach a real human 24/7 and get it fixed. Could you please share your ticket number so that we can track your case internally and investigate?

Update 2: so happy to hear the swipe navigation is in the works!! I'll try to send in screenshots of the deletion issue when I get a chance. I don't think I explained it well so here is my previous view rephrased: my main issue is when I search for a sender so I can delete some emails from that specific sender, after I select several and delete them, they dont go away. it still shows them along with the other emails from that sender. (If I wanted to search the trash id open the trash)

Hi! The app schedules a deletion from our servers, so the messages disappear fully after each deletion task is performed. EDIT: We've added your vote to the existing request for supporting swipe-to-navigate in the app. Please provide us with a screenshot of what you see on your end when searching for senders at: https://proton.me/support/contact.
