About this app

Day One is the journal app that reinvented journaling. Completely private, cross-platform, and designed to never fill up, Day One is designed to let you capture your life as you live it. Use Day One as a daily journal, personal diary, note taking app, travel log, or gratitude journal.

“Day One creates something so rare it feels almost sacred: A completely private digital space.” – New York Times

“Day One makes keeping a journal delightfully easy.” – Wired

“It’s perfect! Does what it says on the box. I was able to import my stuff from another (pricey) journal so that I didn’t lose those entries. It’s easy to add multiple entries to a day and to keep pictures. And it’s lockable, keeping private thoughts protected. I will happily use Day One for years.” – Day One user

Excellent with one exception: you cannot search inside a particular note. Here's how Day One search works - it returns a list of notes that contain your search term. You cannot search INSIDE a note using the Day One app. This is a huge deficiency. To get around this, use your PC to open Day One on the web. However, this does not work from your mobile device. If you try to use a web browser to access the Day One website you are redirected to the app. Bummer.

I've been using this for journaling as recommended by a therapist. It works well, I appreciate being able to have multiple journals. However, I keep sync off intentionally, but after a while of it being off, it randomly turned itself back on. I don't appreciate being forced to sync, especially without notice that it was turned back on. I don't wish to backup my entries.

Thanks for sharing this. We completely understand your concern about sync turning on unexpectedly. That shouldn’t happen without your action. If it ever happens again, please contact us right away at dayoneapp.com/contact so we can investigate. If you remember what actions you were doing around the time it turned back on, please share them with us.

This is a decent, reasonably simple, although somewhat minimalistic diary. Has "daily prompts" you can answer, and a significant amount of templates to cover all of your basic Journaling needs. I just wish the app was not so bare minimal, but offered more tools and unique features that allowed one to toon into their creativity more. The customization features are lackluster and the interface could use a decent upgrade, but aside of then that this is a decent app with plenty to offer still.
