Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.
Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.
Open-Source Cryptography

邮箱本身很好，隐私性是其最好的一点。 不过软件本身就没有那么好了，功能相对于其他邮箱应用甚至对于网页端来说太少甚至是简陋了。首先应用连编辑文本的字体、大小之类的都没有，作为一个邮箱应用连这个都没有就有点说不过去了吧。 然后就是真心希望可以优化一下ui，有的操作真的有点不符合直觉，来往对话希望可以显示成卡片式的对话(就像大多数即时通讯软件那样)这样显然更方便。 还有希望可以加入邮箱签名功能，这个功能真的很好，可以作为末尾署名也可以作为一个个性化的外观设置。 最后希望protonmail可以越来越好！

Hi! If you don't find it convenient, you can switch off the conversation threading by navigating to Settings → Account settings (tap on your username) → Conversation mode. To add a signature, navigate to 'Display name and signature' in the same menu. We'll pass your interest in supporting the option to change the font in the app to the team.

If you've tried to register for a third-party service immediately after creating a Free Proton Mail account, it triggers a measure designed to prevent abusive registrations on 3rd party services. Follow the instructions you received in the automated email to lift the restrictions (add and verify a recovery method).
