About New York City:
New York City, The Big Apple, The City that Never Sleeps, Empire City, Gotham, no matter what you call it, locals will tell you it’s the greatest city in the world. NYC has been celebrated in art and film the world over, and has a seemingly endless amount of things to do for visitors throughout its five boroughs. Rich history, restaurants, world famous buildings, museums, shows, and nightlife all await the intrepid traveller. Manhattan is often called the “Capital of the World,” and not without good reason. As a finance, fashion, and culture capital, Manhattan is a concrete and steel island with more going on than almost anywhere else in the world. Don’t waste your time visiting the same spots over and over again, as there’s always something new to discover. If Manhattan starts to feel a little too busy or clausterphobic, don’t forget about the other neighborhoods! Brooklyn and Queens are both great places to start if you want to get off of the busy little island.
-By Air: New York City’s hustle and bustle demands not one, but three major airports. If you’re flying in from abroad, you’ll end up either in John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) in Queens, or in Newark International Airport (EWR) across the Hudson River in New Jersey. LaGuardia Airport (LGA) is also in Queens, and sees mostly domestic arrivals. A taxi from the airport is the most convenient and quickest option to get to where you want to go, but a bus will probably get you there as well.
-By Land: AMTRAK trains will take you straight to Pennsylvania Station, right under Madison Square Garden. Also, bus lines go into the city from all over the United States and parts of Canada.
-Subways: A robust subway system serves most areas of the city, and is both quick and reliable. They may seem complicated at first, but after a few rides, you’ll get the hang of it.
-Taxis: Swarms of taxis patrol the streets at all hours of the day in Manhattan, and they are the quickest way to get around. Don’t waste time or money renting a car, because parking is a nightmare. If you’re in the other boroughs, you may want to call a taxi, as there are fewer free ones available to flag down.
-Busses: Locals mostly take the busses, and they are a bit more complicated.
Your feet: Normally the best way to get around, and the best way to get to know the city it just to walk! Manhattan is easy to navigate, safe, and most things are relatively close to each other.
Official maps from the MTA, updated and movable to the SD card. The app downloads each bus map the first time you open it. Each bus map weights around 2 MB, so I recommend downloading it through Wifi and waiting a couple of minutes.
If a map doesn't download after giving some time, try performing an "empty cache" through the applications menu in your operating system settings.
Users with Android versions prior to 2.1 might experience errors.
Popup ads were removed long ago, as a response to feedback. Double banners are a bug, please let me know if it persists after update. Send me your suggestions and I'll try to add/fix them.
