With the new RIPTA Wave App, you can securely purchase RIPTA fares in seconds. Purchasing fares is easy: enter your payment card information, load money onto your Wave account, and your smartphone is your ticket to ride! RIPTA also offers Day and Monthly passes. When ready to board the bus, open the app, and scan it under the validator.

Never lose your fare product again! Once you load money into your Wave account, it will always be available to use. Need to replace your phone? No problem -- we can easily transfer your balance.

Ratings and reviews

You can currently pay for RIPTA using cash (exact change) or with a 'Wave' account. If you are an infrequent rider, cash is probably the way to go. It takes a little effort to set up an account and you have to carry a balance. The 'Wave' card and app do exactly the same thing. The app takes a little more effort to set up and use, but you don't have to get and carry another card. Is it worth it? Depends on your preferences.

This app has stolen 6 dollars from me now (Arguably more considering that it's supposed to create day passes and transfers based on money being spent.) It's also just not a very good app, but my money disappearing is what pushed me to actually leave a bad review. :( Unfortunately, there is no other app that lets you get a day pass or transfer between buses without paying extra. If you're going to ride several buses in a day, this app could save you money.... or it could steal it

This app downloaded easily but kept freezing during setup. I contacted RIPTA tech support who responded the following day stating it's not the app and that I should call my provider. My provider said it's the app. So, the classic runaround occurred. The bottom line is that the Wave app doesn't work with certain phones (according to other experiences posted online). Save your dollar bills or get the Wave card. Hope this helps.
