With the new RIPTA Wave App, you can securely purchase RIPTA fares in seconds. Purchasing fares is easy: enter your payment card information, load money onto your Wave account, and your smartphone is your ticket to ride! RIPTA also offers Day and Monthly passes. When ready to board the bus, open the app, and scan it under the validator.

Never lose your fare product again! Once you load money into your Wave account, it will always be available to use. Need to replace your phone? No problem -- we can easily transfer your balance.

Ratings and reviews

doesn't work most of the time, won't let you purchase credits for rides and often doesn't work when scanning on the buses. It literally doesn't do what it's designed for. Updated as of 6/4/26, app still does not allow purchase of credits for rides, costumer service options they recommend to follow up with complaints doesn't load or accept submissions on their website. 6/13/26 still doesn't allow purchase of credits for rides despite trying other cards even.

the app steals $2 for every $5 you load. you can't record or screenshot to prove it. you can't access customer service. None of the support pages work; all support links go to the 404 error site. if you don't allow every single permission (location, notifications, and clock??? however that works), the "Use" screen doesn't show a barcode. you can't fix it without redownloading. Passes are hidden and lack options. no transparency as to how to qualify for different passes. app crashes a ton.

Horrible awful no good app. Sometimes it takes your money, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes you add a Day Pass to your account and when you got on the bus, the reader won't take it and says transaction declined. Or when you have say $6 on your balance and you try to scan it but it says transaction declined when there is clearly money on it and the bus drivers look at you like a liar. Drives me nuts. You can't remove cards that serve no purpose from your account. An extremely flawed app.
