The program helps you speak not just learn words.
This program is probably the best one for learning grammar. My biggest complaint is that there is no way to report bugs or suggestions within the app. For example, the sound will periodically stop working. You then have to close the program and reopen it. It'd be nice to be able to report that within the application and not within the review. I would also suggest more listening drills especially in the context of sentences and paragraphs. It would be great if the program went at periodic reviews of the grammar rules like they do the vocabulary. It would also be nice the program showed the literal translation of the French sentence.
I use this because i like the lessons but also because there arent many alternatives. I like the sophistication of tgis compared to duolingo which seems to think phrases like "i am an apple" are useful. However, what i like about duolingo is it provides instant definitions for new words. Babbel as a paid service should incorporate this as well as provide conjugations of new verbs when introducing them, rather than leaving people to guess and get questions wrong in which you have to redo an entire segment. I like the app, but as a paid service it should be better.
Very good beginner course. Only critiques I have are that they throw a bunch of accents and dialects at you. It makes it hard to get basic pronunciation down. I also wish they had an intermediate course to build in the beginners course. I finished the Norwegian course and and have a solid understanding of the language but can't really get past the beginner level with the resources provided.
I am using this app to try to pick up Spanish. The app works perfectly. My only (small) complaint is that I can't turn back the pages to review. I can redo the entire lesson or review sections be escaping out of the program then opening it again. It will ask if you want start at the beginning of that chapter or return where you left off. If you choose to return were you left off it will return you to that section. That works for me. Plus I take notes. I highly recommend this app!
Just moved in to Amsterdam and need to learn Dutch. This is really good entry level, not hard and very gradual. Also I sometimes use it on my laptop and sometimes on my mobile right now. So far I feel this is really good value and a good way for me to learn. I also like the fact that you can both listen to everything and also test your pronunciation through the microphone. very happy with the purchase
