Love it! 3 stars only because I would like to learn Esperanto, which is only possible in English..but I want to better my English (I'm actually austrian) as well. Therefore I have to swich between German and English all the time. Which is fine. I'd just like it to he easier maybe? Is that possible? Something like "Your courses in other languages" at the top, when i click "add course"? Also i logged out and in again, and all my progress was just gone.
It is a fun app to use! It has a stat building game sense that encourages me to return. The progression through the language feels good. However, like any language learning tool, it is only a supplement to actual conversation. *Update 03/2018* Easily a year later, and I'm still learning. There have been a few changes to the award system. They devalued the Lingots a bit, but it is easier to maintain my "streak" now. I still highly recommend Duolingo!
A extremely well constructed and bite-sized approach to learning a language. Duolingo learns what you know every time you each of the modular exercises. It adjusts all other exercises in response. The ads are not intrusive at all. The paid version is too expensive to get rid of adverts. At half the cost I'd lay it just because the app is so clever and successful.
I like it a lot, especially considering it's a free app. My only issue is that occasionally it'll throw a curveball in the form of a word that hasn't previously been explained, in a question that won't allow you to check the definition. I suppose that's to improve your ability to read contextually? Apart from that, it's great, nice and challenging without becoming disheartening
Really cool idea, learn at your own pace. Options are overpriced, at about a fraction of their prices I would consider it. $6 to continue a lost streak is more than I paid for any game ever. Honestly I would pay $6 for full access to the game including offline use. But 7.99 a month ha! Lower your prices so I can donate for the well designed app. R
Terrible game with courses that are wrong. No sound on many foreign languages. Languages being taught in the wrong script. Tapping on words for translation reveals no translations. This company uses random people with no linguistic education or education skills to make their courses. Find a program designed by linguists or educators. Or at least knowledgeable in the languages they allege to teach.
