Easy and enjoyable to use. Hearing and speaking are reinforced by visuals/reading lessons and by reviewing where I made mistakes. The game aspects and forming a private group with my family/friends make it fun without getting in the way. There is appropriate level of messages encouraging one to keep going. It sometimes cannot "get" what I speak into my phone; I don't know why, but that is a minor issue. I really like this app.
The lessons are great, I really love Duolingo and use it everyday. This mobile version needs solid improvements, though. This app doesn't give you the theory like the web version does; I miss it a lot when learning German and French that are so full of details on plurals and genders. Other mobile apps are getting better (and more effective) than Duolingo, we are not seeing significant improvements in ages! Languages that do not use the base language default alphabet, like Russian for English speakers, should also have a handwriting lessons.
Pretty good, but could be better. The fluency indicator kind of sucks. I've been stuck at 48% for almost a year despite practicing for 10 - 20 minutes every day. Mostly a good app I've learned a lot but there seems to be a plateau that you can actually become fluent in the language with this app. For the harder verb conjugations there's really no explanation about the pattern that's there so you're left guessing. Also, a little annoying thing but there's 3 bonus slots but only 2 bonus available. Also wish they would do some other languages especially Asian languages.
I love this concept. I had been wanting to learn Swedish for a long time but was lacking a starting point. I am now learning and my basics are getting stronger every day. You do need to be serious though and keep at it with great regularity. It also works great to brush up on almost forgotten languages!
It's really fun. It turns language learning into a game and explains grammar nuances that Rosetta Stone doesn't cover nearly as well. I have stuck with this longer and learned more than any other language program I've tried. It just keeps getting better!
Great fun way to learn a language. The reinforcement of words and phrases is really helpful and there is lots of variety so it is never boring. I am trying Italian but not sure if I would have done as well if had I been a complete beginner.
