Droid Dashcam is a great driving video recorder (dashboard camera, BlackBox) app for car/vehicle drivers which can continuously record videos in loop mode, add subtitles with needed information directly on those videos (read below) and record in background, autostart recording and much more.

Ratings and reviews

LOVED how it worked. However, after any 5th or 6th time using it. I noticed my battery on my phone was almost drained completely after 30 minsof using it? When I looked at my battery usage it says it was running for 4 1/2 hours!?... but i only used it for 30 mins and I know I stopped the recording and shutdown the app. Somehow... its still running in the background. happened multiple times. I went through battery settings on the app and phone and they are correct and optimized.

App is great, allows for audio/video recordings, tons of customization settings, only thing I wish it had was video resolutions that are wider than they are tall when the phone is in the portrait mode, as currently if the phone is in portrait, a lot of the frame is my dashboard/the sky. (Also the highet resolutions tend to be for horizontal, not vertical recording.

Love the features of the app, but there are two major drawbacks. First, even when the phone is charging and the app is running in the background with the screen off, it drains the battery. Second, probably as a result of the first, it causes the phone to get VERY hot, even in a cool car when it's not in direct sun. Hot enough that the phone goes into its overheating modes. We may have to try another app if we can't reconcile these issues.
