Droid Dashcam is a great driving video recorder (dashboard camera, BlackBox) app for car/vehicle drivers which can continuously record videos in loop mode, add subtitles with needed information directly on those videos (read below) and record in background, autostart recording and much more.

Ratings and reviews

Ok, normally I do not leave feedback for normal apps but they worked with me to get it to function correctly and with Google maps running also. The app plays nice with the Google maps app as long as on the car Bluetooth connection, you only connect the phone and not for music. Google maps does not transfer audio over Bluetooth to my Subaru Forester so it has to use the phone speaker for maps, but Bluetooth for phone calls and texts. I even purchased the app since it worked so well. Thank you ! !

Love the features of the app, but there are two major drawbacks. First, even when the phone is charging and the app is running in the background with the screen off, it drains the battery. Second, probably as a result of the first, it causes the phone to get VERY hot, even in a cool car when it's not in direct sun. Hot enough that the phone goes into its overheating modes. We may have to try another app if we can't reconcile these issues.

Been using this app for my daily driver and have been very happy with it. I do some driving at night and this app does ok but the frame rate seems high. Daytime works great. This only has ads for the first few moments, many thanks for that. The only downside is that the app starts when the doors are opened or when closed. It would be nice if it could wait for the ignition to be turned on. Overall its really a nice nice app that works great. I use one of my old phones a LG7 for just this one app.

What's new

Option to control "Keep the CPU on (Wake Lock)" for background service Watcher at Autostart settings screen. It may use more battery when app just waits for BT/charging/AUX events. In practice, CPU should not fall asleep, so you can disable it to save battery.
