OK but... Clearly lots of work has been done on this app since the last tone I tried it. At least it's a lot prettier. Doesn't do the important stuff well though. Won't pick up the signal from my polar chest strap even though the phone says it's paired. Can't crop off the extra junk from the end of a workout when I forgot to stop recording. Doesn't do heart rate zone alarms. But it is pretty!
Watch your heart rate in real time! I'm 56 years old and never really worked out. A friend taught me and said get the Polar chest heart monitor which I did. I learned the difference between perceived exertion and real exertion. I used the watch at that time and saw that I can get the H7 monitor and use my phone with this app. Nuff said. I have lost almost 40lbs and an much stronger and healthier. I've had other folks at the gym see it working and they are impressed too. Now Polar needs to get it to sync better with the Polar Flow app.
Won't work out without it To me, there's absolutely no reason to work out if you can't track your progress (or lack of it). Everything Polar makes has one goal - to chart and keep all relevant info from your workouts. Polar is all ABOUT fitness. I'll be buying and using their products as long as they keep making them without swerving from that goal.
Lacking in the most basic features Looks ok, it lacks features that would actually make it useful and not just frustrating. For example whilst training and moving from one activity or machine to another there is no 'hot swap' for activities, so you must then stop the session and restart with another activity session. Then there is no way after to view your groups of sessions together to get a summary. There is not even a summary for that day, just a useless best feature.... app needs more options its too simplified to be useful.
Potentially 5 stars Love the H7 and the app is reliable and meets my needs overall. Would love to see rankings of my best times and paces for each catagory so I may compare similar performances more easily. The fitness test is a waste of money, it scores me as nearly elite while my true V02max is that of a beginner. I would love to see more options for training types or to be able to type in my own catagories when what I'm looking for is unavailable. More metrics like VO2MAX would be a welcome addition.
I have been using this with H7 and i have purchased the in-app feature. Overall it has been good. However, I would like Polar to add more options to the Benefit Target selection, which is now even though a few but somewhat limited and not so customisable except for the overall duration. For example, interval session ,which is very important and recommended a lot in training programs, should be added as an option there.
Major improvement was made for our treadmill runners: from now on users can add or edit distance after treadmill running.
In addition to that, we made minor bug fixes to improve quality (e.g. fix for a rare stop of HR measurement when another app is opened).
