Great app. Love the suggested routes. Would be good if could zoom in more. UPDATE AFTER A WEEK Found useful features such as planning a route it will automatically snap to footpath. However, on my Pixel XL, it is really bad at finding my location quickly. Great when it works, but often gives false location for couple of minutes. Other gpx readers are better. Makes following the route more difficult. Not impossible, but could be much better.
Like the detail on the map and the route planner looks good, but would be nice to have a driving option included with cycling and walking. A better zoom and orientation compass would be nice, also to see the free map where your land ranger ends would be good. Maybe define it with a red boundary line. The above being said I would of paid for my map , app included or not, as a digital duplicate of the paper map it can't be faulted, so how can you be disappointed ?
I think the thing that worries me most about this is how long is it going to be about? I bought maps for their previous product and they aren't updating it any more or transferring the maps we have bought to this app. What guarantees are there that in a few years tine they don't bring out a new app again and abandon this one with no transfer of purchases to the new product.
Very unstable app. Extremely disappointing and could be so much better. Forever having to restart it. Often stops tracking location. Crashes frequently. Doesn't like your phone being switched off and then often doesn't work or has lost location when you switch back on. Really doesn't track well.
Poor but just about usable. Downloading maps is cumbersome and fiddly. I've got my whole home county downloaded which I don't think unreasonable as it's rural with poor mobile signal and I often make trips out at short notice but to do so I've had to download 20 odd different segments. I've lost count of the number of times the current location arrow obscures some necessary map detail.
The maps are great --- the new free tier map is surprisingly good --- but the route recorder is essentially but fit for purpose. It's extremely unreliable and will frequently stops recording for no apparent reason, requiring you to pause and resume it before it'll catch up (with a straight line from where it gave up on you). There doesn't seem to be an export option and recorded routes don't sync with the website (although that could be another bug). It gobbles battery power, too. Manual route plotting doesn't follow tracks, unlike e.g. the Swiss national map app. I would suggest getting this if you want access to the maps, but don't use this app when you're actually walking.
* With route syncing, you can now create, save and view routes across web and mobile
* We've fixed a digital download bug and improved some minor import issues
* And we've improved the OS Maps app overall, making it more reliable and responsive
* Redeemed maps may be slow on some devices, which we hope to address soon.
