About this app

Participation in this program is currently limited to USAA members with an active auto insurance policy in select states.

The USAA SafePilot App instructs, inspires and rewards safe driving habits to help keep you safe on the road while lowering your auto insurance premium.

Eligible members can receive a discount of up to 10% for enrolling and participating in the program, and earn a premium discount at renewal time for being safe drivers.

When activated, the app monitors driving habits including phone handling, hands-free phone use, harsh braking, and how much you drive. The better you drive, the greater the discount on your next premium. All members of a household included on a USAA auto insurance policy can participate, with the earned discount based on an average of each driver’s individual score.

Horrible update changes to the UI. Screen shots on the store page are no longer relevant. Extremely clunky. Not at all user friendly. Multiple taps to view information that previously was very upfront. Appreciate that the app has an option to select "was a passenger" if you accidently leave the app running while in someone else's car. Would be nice if there was a "passenger used my phone". Not uncommon and wouldn't otherwise negate the trip otherwise.

The new user interface (UI) is a lot less user-friendly compared to the previous one, which was very user-friendly. The one upside is that it seems to trigger false events a lot less. It used to trigger harsh braking (which is a huge negative impact on driving score) randomly, and not trigger if actually braking hard for a legitimate reason, ie being cut off, or having someone blow through a red light or stop sign causing you to brake extremely hard to avoid a crash.

It's ok for the most part, but there needs to be a way to separate the occurrences that "ding" you for using the phone, bc if people are using a food app in the drive thru, that should be able to be marked without marking the whole trip as "this wasn't a drive" or modify it add an additional bubble/drop-down to mark as "whole trip" or "isolate each occurrence" for that trip, to mark each "ding" for their reason, in case ppl change roles on a trip, too
