About this app

The Yo-Yo Intermittent Test evaluates one's stamina using a profile similar to sports like soccer, basketball and other similar "stop-and-go" vigorous sports.

This app will allow you to conduct the following:
* The Yo-Yo Intermittent Recovery Test, Level 1 and Level 2
* The Yo-Yo Intermittent Endurance Test, Level 1 and Level 2

as defined by Jens Bangsbo of Copenhagen University (December 1994)

It will
- prompt you with voice cues or ringtones that you select
- display seconds to shuttle halfway point
- display seconds to next speed level
- display seconds during recovery
- display distance covered (incl. shuttles) and time elapsed

When you are done, the app will provide you with
- the Level reached
- total distance run

Note: A rough estimate of VO2Max will be provided for Recovery Level 1 only, provided at least 1000m (level 15.6) has been run.

This app will NOT allow you to directly save your results (the Pro version will); you could take a screenshot (power + lower volume buttons simultaneously).

Reference: Fitness Training in Football, a scientific approach - by Jens Bangsbo, publisher August Krogh Institute - Copenhagen University (December 1994).

Typical Results for Yo-Yo IR1 test [Bangsbo et al. (2008)]:
Male (Soccer): International level - 2420 m; Elite level - 2190 m; Moderately trained - 1810 m
Female (Soccer) : International level - 1600 m; Elite level - 1360 m; Sub-elite - 1160 m

Want more? Want to express appreciation :). Get the pro version, which offers:
- Sophisticated group and advanced individual testing options
- Graphical analyses
- Save, export results
- Level & Shuttle voice cues
- And more

Couldn't find a calculator that would convert the Yoyo Endurance level 1 scores to show Vo2 max. Rather painful. Considering that was the reason for the exercise and also the test ended at level 14.6. meaning that we weren't able to continue. 18 students not happy. We move on.

The app conducts the Yoyo INTERMITTENT (YI) tests. There is no known formula for converting YI Endurance tests to VO2Max (see Store Listing). YIE-Level 1 does end after 14.5. Students reached 14.5 -- doubt it; examine shuttle distance -- it must be 20 METERS each way (total of 40m before the 5 second rest). rudolf.fernandes@gmail.com for more.

IR level2 rating table is same as in level1. Which means if you want to feel good about yourself then do level 2 test and within 10 runs you will be 'superior'. Whereas actual table on internet if one is running 400 mter in level2 is 'below average'. In its level 1 table it is difficult to even reach 'excellent'. Correct it please. Rest all fine. I believe level2 must be harder than level1 Edit: Thank you for updating. Let me take a test again.

The Vo2Max formula used is the "official" formula, as published by Jens Bangsbo et al. Unfortunately, it's faulty (VO2max = IR1 distance (m) × 0.0084 + 36.4 OR IR2 distance (m) × 0.0136 + 45.3) -- zero distance returns a significant value. Focus instead on the level/distance you are achieving. The app has been modified accordingly. Enjoy.

Great app. Best results broadcasting over Bluetooth speaker. Can be used to bump up fitness as well as test it. Nicely done
