Participation in this program is currently limited to USAA members with an active auto insurance policy in select states.

The USAA SafePilot App instructs, inspires and rewards safe driving habits to help keep you safe on the road while lowering your auto insurance premium.

Eligible members can receive a discount of up to 10% for enrolling and participating in the program, and earn a premium discount at renewal time for being safe drivers. 

When activated, the app monitors driving habits including phone handling, hands-free phone use, harsh braking, and how much you drive. The better you drive, the greater the discount on your next premium. All members of a household included on a USAA auto insurance policy can participate, with the earned discount based on an average of each driver’s individual score.

Ratings and reviews

Most of the features are good reminders to drive safely. However, points added to my score because I used my hands-free feature to make a call. My hands remain on the steering wheel, which is like conversing with the other passengers. I just don't get it! I press the green/talk button twice on the wheel, and I'm connected. Again, "NOT REMOVING MY HANDS OR TOUCHING MY PHONE!"

this app sucks. if you use android auto/carplay it is a nightmare. all calls are integrated into your car system and can be answered using the wheel. this app penalizes you for answering a call with your wheel, and when your trip is done, it tells you, "You used your phone xx% of this trip." it actively hurts you to answer the phone in the most safe way possible. However, you can play with your car screen as much as you want and it doesn't do anything. this app needs an update ASAP.

The App incorrectly identifies harsh breaking a lot of the time. It seems to do that when you get to areas of low service connectivity. I will be on what seems to be a completely normal drive i take every day and it will say i have a period of harsh breaking. The app still saves me money so far but if you're driving in the city you tend to be at the mercy of everyone else. I wish they could improve this feature a little bit.
