The Nintendo Switch Online app enhances your online gameplay experience on your Nintendo Switch™ system. With this app, you can access game-specific services, view your online friends, and use voice chat during online play—all of which allow you to get even more out of online play.

You can see which of your friends are online from your smartphone—and which games they're playing. You can even send friend requests right from the app!

Note: Some friend features, like adding friends, can only be accessed from a Nintendo Switch system.

◆ Use voice chat during online play
From this app, you can join in on voice chat while playing supported software online. By using the app, your voice-chat status will be automatically synced with the game status—and in games that support team battles, like Splatoon 3, you can choose to chat with just the players who are on your team.

This app is good at what it does, but It proposes a problem: "What if I want to voice chat with my friends?" That might sound simple, just text them on discord or something, but what if you only know them on the switch? You can't communicate to them AT. ALL. the only way you can is if you both are friends on animal crossing, which is hard. Its good for its job, but nintendo really needs a text-chat feature either on the app or on the switch itself. We just need to message our friends. That's it.

I love using this app to communicate with friends while playing Smash Ultimate or Animal Crossing, but the latest update has a few some issues. After updating the app, as soon as I tried to open ACNH companion software the interface/buttons began to glitch, flicker, or even flash in and out of view. It was pretty strange, so I immediately closed the app and haven't used it since. I'm not sure what could have caused this, but please fix it if you can.

Desperately needs a overhaul and new features. This far into the Switch's life, we should have been been able to message our friends, have game hubs, use voice chat from the console instead of the app, and over more features for a paid subscription. The Xbox app for example, has a ton of features in such a small package, and doesn't even require Xbox Live Gold to get any real use out of.
