Connect to the hunt with the Alpha® LTE dog tracker, using cellular technology (subscription required). Use your smartphone to track your dog’s movements with the Alpha® app. Connect your Alpha LTE tracking system to a compatible Garmin VHF dog tracking system (sold separately) to leverage either LTE or VHF tracking signals. Use the Alpha app to navigate and mark waypoints with integrated mapping.
Garmin Alpha needs SMS permission to allow you to receive and send SMS text messages from your Garmin devices. We also need call log permission to display incoming calls on your devices.

I've had this for about 2.5 months. For the cost of the devices, I expect more from the app. It would be nice to control the remote from the App so you don't have to use multiple hands. The method for saving offline maps is poorly designed. It doesn't let you pre download. So hopefully you have service where you are going. In the last few months the app view seems to constantly reset and then I have to let it load before knowing the dog's position. I don't remember that on the first couple uses

it is constantly closing while trying to download maps. got it to connect to my alpha but it won't work with it. major problems. do better. we pay so much for your products, we expect stuff to work properly edit: still junk. map is a fraction better. it is still not even close to what the explore app was. how can there be such a difference?

I've had the device and software about three months. My Android Alpha app has consistent problems in communication via Bluetooth. The device settings cannot be transmitted to the device. The Bluetooth pairing is inconsistent. The link to "online support" has never worked. The app works fine on my wife's iPhone. The support personnel described how it worked on their iPhone but had no experience with Android. Very poor experience.
