About this app

Google Messages is the official Google app for messaging. Google Messages is revolutionizing how a billion users connect and is powered by Rich Communication Services (RCS), the industry standard for texting that replaces SMS and MMS. With RCS, you can share high resolution photos and videos, enjoy dynamic group chats, and seamlessly connect with other RCS users including your iPhone friends.

• Rich Communication: Share high-quality photos and videos, see when friends are typing, and enjoy dynamic group chats that now seamlessly include your iPhone friends.
• Personal Touch: Make conversations uniquely yours with features like custom chat bubble colors or fun selfie gifs.
• Privacy Matters: Rest easy knowing your personal chats are protected with end-to-end encryption between Google Messages users, so no one (including Google and third parties) can read or view your messages and attachments except the person you’re messaging. Plus, enjoy advanced spam protection.
• AI-Powered Messaging: Craft the perfect message with Magic Compose suggestions and our latest AI features.
• Seamless Across Devices: Start a chat on your phone and continue it effortlessly on your tablet or computer. The app is also available on Wear OS.

Google Messages is more than just messaging; it's a richer, safer, and more expressive way to connect.

App is also available on Wear OS. Availability of RCS varies by region and carrier and a data plan may be required. Availability of features varies by market and device and sign up for beta testing may be required.

I like Google Messages pretty well. I dig the animated emojis and their slightly different appearance. I also like that I can see if my recipient is typing in response. My complaint is that occasionally texts will fail to download from a certain few people in my address book. I try the recommended fixes, but they don't generally don't work, such as, rebooting my phone, clearing my cache and data in the app, stepping outside, and moving closer to my Wi-Fi router.

Hi, Ryan. Can you try to uninstall and reinstall the Messages app itself? Open the Play Store app > search Messages app > Uninstall > Reinstall/Update.

I use this app to send group texts a lot and after updating I'm having an issue adding people. It's really inconvenient because before I could just type their name and the contact would pop up and I could add them. Now when I type their name it only brings up old groups with them in it. It's like registering the letters as numbers like a name starting with 'A' brings up number that starts with '2'. It just makes the feature annoying to use.

For years 5 stars until update. Dual sim can no longer choose which sim to use when sending messages. App is useless to me now since work clients now have my personal number. UPDATE: Dual sim still has too many menus to go through to change. I travel the world and sometimes sim 1 or 2 will not have coverage. Having more than 1 click to change for EACH contact is unacceptable. Just put in a faster way to swap sims for each conversation like it was a few months ago. Need quicker access to this.

Hi, Ethan. You can change the SIM you want to use for sending text messages within the app by opening the conversation, clicking on the overflow menu, then selecting "Details," where you can choose your preferred SIM. Hope this helps!
