The official Google Photos app is made for the way you take photos today and includes essential features like shared albums, automatic creations and an advanced editing suite. Additionally every Google Account comes with 15 GB of storage and you can choose to automatically back up all your photos and videos in High quality or Original quality. You can then access them from any connected device and on photos.google.com.

With the official app, you get:

15 GB OF STORAGE: Back up 15 GB of photos and videos and access them from any device and photos.google.com—your photos are safe, secure, and private to you. All photos and videos you back up in high quality before June 1, 2021 will not count toward your Google Account storage.

So incredibly confusing. Switched phones. Now it won't back up. I'm searching on the internet for an answer. What a p i t a! I use this app for the auto backup (never have to connect the phone) and I take advantage of the automated panoramas. I sometimes shoot a sequence of photos knowing that the AI engine will make a pano of it. I occasionally like the 'improved" photos. Cannot find settings.

Great for backing up all the photos. Easy to upload from devices and from web too. Great editing features for photos taken on phone. Recent updates have annoyed me as you now can't download the raw versions on desktop without having to click in every photo. Time consuming as it downloads one at a time to a separate zip file. Still great for back ups.

I'm so disappointed at Google Photos. I've been a huge fan of Photos for years, and use it to consolidate ALL of my photos. I started to organize old pictures (from ~2008), and suddenly not only these, but the majority of my pictures as a whole, have now their dates completely wrong. Pictures I took in a given day spread across multiple days. I find it laughable the solution to "edit your dates" manually. I have 700GB of pictures across 30y, so I really need to count on Photos' data integrity.

What's new

We are introducing a new storage management tool to help you easily manage the photos that count toward your storage quota. This tool will surface photos or videos you might want to delete — like blurry photos, screenshots and large videos.
