While some of the actions won't work right away, we're working to support more coming soon. You'll be able to switch back to Google Assistant in app settings.

The app is getting worse and worse with Android Auto. I try to call someone whom I call all the time through voice command. Now, it doesn't understand who I want to call and offers people whom I never call. Before the latest update, I could say, "Planet Fitness", and it would give me locations of ones nearby. Now it tries to play some band on Spotify. I used to find the assistant extremely helpful while driving. Now it's flat out frustrating.

This app is malicious. It keeps turning assistant personalization back on in my settings, no matter how many times I toggle it off. You can turn it off by going into your account, by going into Android Auto, by going into apps in your settings, and by going into the Google app. I've followed their help page, asked ai, and tried everything to turn it off, but nothing works. My assistant is off, and it's not the default app. They also keep turning Gemini on as well, after it has been off.

Google Assistant has problems. It doesn't always respond to the activation phrase. It doesn't always recognize my voice for data-sensitive commands. It doesn't always interface with apps correctly, if at all (including, bizarrely, Google Keep). One of my favorites is when it responds to the activation phrase, listens to my full request, then dies before finishing it. It's pulled that clunker on mobile and speaker devices. But it still beats Gemini.

Gemini is coming to Google Assistant users over the coming weeks to select users and countries. When you opt in to Gemini, it will become your primary assistant from Google.
