It offers an exclusively "Blue State," progressive sampling of perspectives from the same "herd of independent minds" that all think alike, drink from the same well, and eat from the same menu. Unlike, say, the SmartNews app, which mixes up stories from both the left and the right so one can, hopefully, get a "balanced" perspective. The app would be better if it wasn't so homogeneous.
It just ruined a perfectly good app. I had my library as the main screen. Now it's buried down in an inconvenient place. The new navigation makes no sense. The navigation with the bottom bar is horrible. I was able to go left and right between topics. Now I need to do 4 taps to switch between topics. If Google wants us to just read the "for you" feed, it can remove the bottom bar and all the complicated settings of this app.
Essentially a good news aggregator, except I despise the auto update and reset functions, which are not user controllable in settings. You back out of an article, you find yourself at the top again. You scroll and see an article of interest only to see it disappear before you get a chance to select it. Frustrating and will be hiding from view.
No matter how many times I ask this to stop recommending articles on sport, television and celebrities there they are again the next time I refresh the content. A frustrating experience. Edit: A month later and I'm still getting unwanted sport, television and celebrity stories. Down to 1 star. Does Google actually know what 'recommend fewer stories like this' actually means? Another month and I still get far too many sport stories. Come on Google, you can do better than this.
Was good until it keeps shutting down itself! I'm reading then the unfortunately Google play has stopped sign. Happened multiple times already so for now 2 stars is all it gets.
I decided to try this app again after Flipboard updated their app and made it almost useless. This is much easier to add sources and organize them. The layout is simple and fast to get the information I want when I open the app. If I could add a few more sources that I don't see on there right now I would give it a 5 star rating.
