Update: I'm going to miss Google Podcasts. It's really very good, and I like using vanilla Google apps on Android. However, Alphabet is trying to push people to pay for YouTube subscriptions so they're shutting this great service down. Android phones just got a bit worse. I found most my favourite podcasts easily, and i like that it keeps track of my progress on episodes.

Simple and easy to use. The option to mark all episodes of a podcast as complete would be useful, instead of having to do it episode by episode. Sadly, Google has decided to force us onto YouTube Music as a way of accessing podcasts. I've now tried YTM and for podcasts there is simply far too much going on. I am actively now looking for a podcast app that just does podcasts and has a simple, straightforward user interface. So, sorry Google, but your marketing ploy didn't work

In a world of complexity, Google Podcasts was a beacon of simplicity and functionality. Its retirement on April 2nd leaves a void in the podcasting realm. Disagreeing strongly with this decision, we lament the loss of a user-friendly, beautiful, and simple app. In an ever-changing tech landscape, Google's move seems to lose sight of what truly matters.

What's new

Google Podcasts now supports adding podcasts by RSS feed! Open the app and navigate to Activity, and then to the Subscriptions tab. Select the three dots in the top right corner and then "Add by RSS Feed." Once added, the podcast will appear along with your other subscribed shows, including at the top of the Home tab.
