To use Android Auto on your car display, you’ll need an Android phone running Android 8 or higher, an active data plan, and the Android Auto app.

For Lyft drivers, continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

By downloading the app, you agree (i) to receive communications from Lyft, including push notifications; and (ii) to allow Lyft to collect your device's language settings. You can opt out of receiving push notifications through your device settings.

You may see a different experience in select cities. If Upfront Pay is not available in your city, then you will be paid for each minute and mile of the trips you complete, based on your city’s per-minute and per-mile rates. Upfront Pay is not available in Washington state, New York City, Portland or Toronto.

Ratings and reviews

The app will not let me go online. I keep getting the "view issues" button which brings up a message about background monitoring required. I've tried getting help through the app, but no one has answered. I've been waiting for help for over half an hour after it supposedly connected me to a live agent. I've passed all the background checks and completed everything needed. I've also tried every possible troubleshooting steps I can think of

The latest update (6-26-24) is awful. There is no longer the option to use Google maps or Waze. The built in map doesn't work right, as in directions are way off. The arrow marker for your vehicle is huge and obscures a large portion of the map and will not point in the direction of travel. Doesn't transfer to my infotainment Android Auto. This is an Awful update and violates our autonomy as independent contractors. F Lyft.

Bad maps, often poor instructions to go 8 blocks out of the way, would have been ~2 minute more. Map said go left on all images and verbal. I continued to stay the graphic path on pin head and found rider in seconds. Another day: Confusing issue at the airport, ride type changes. Can't cancel,Then back and forth. App-Map said I had rider in car when I did not. Due to my integral obligations I went back to get the rider after dropping the first shared rider off. it was a negative on income.
