About this app

Google Messages is the official Google app for messaging. Google Messages allows you to text with Rich Communication Services (RCS) with fallback to SMS/MMS, which allows you to seamlessly connect to other RCS users -- no matter what device they use. Get more done in your messages with one-tap calendar reminders, emoji replies, and spam protection. End-to-end encryption is on by default when you message other Google Messages users who have RCS enabled.

Know when friends are typing or when they've read your message, share high-resolution images and videos, easily add people to a group chat, and experience an all-around richer messaging experience.

End-to-end encryption is on by default between Google Messages users who have RCS enabled and secures your eligible communications, so no one (including Google and third parties) can read or view your messages and attachments except the person you’re messaging.

If a website is suspicious or unsafe, you’ll be warned before clicking any links. You can also block and report potential spammers to help stop unwanted and fraudulent messages.

Share high-resolution videos directly from your Google Photos library.

Keep the conversation going no matter what device you're on. Enjoy RCS chats with friends on your phone, computer, Android tablet, or smart watch with the Messages app.

Access suggested replies, one-tap calendar reminders, link sharing, and more without leaving your message. Reply quicker and get more out of your conversations with smart actions.

Suggested responses, gifs, and emojis make conversations faster and more fun. Reply back to messages with just a tap and keep the conversation going.

App also available on Wear OS.

Availability of RCS varies by region and carrier and a data plan may be required. Availability of features varies by market and device. Sign up for beta testing.

The app is average. Although it has some nice features, it can not be customized the way my old app could. I would like an app with more personalized options. In the rush to join the AI generation, the app creators have neglected to incorporate creative and fun options that would make the app stand out. So far, it's on par with the others. * I want to thank Google Messages for their response. I have sent and will continue to send feedback as I continue to learn more about the app.

Had to switch thanks to Verizon. So far not a fan. When someone forwards a message to me from another messaging app, it doesn't show as a forward. It looks like they sent me the message. Very confusing. Also, can't copy selecyed text. Options are not as easy to access to change settings, have to go into Google account instead of being able to just tap three bars or a settings icon. So far not impressed especially since Verizon made me switch apps. Was happy with messaging plus.

This app is a horrible replacement for Message+. It doesn't vibrate when I have a message and my phone is on vibrate. Ergo, I miss new texts. The bubble is too easy to overlook, and the preview lasts about 0.3 seconds. I miss my pop-ups. Plus, I get a notification icon on my lock screen when there aren't any new messages. The text is too small, and there's no option to resize it. If you're forcing people to switch products, your replacement needs to be better.
