This works for some of my family, but not me. 7 out of 8 times it wants the camera bar closer to my forehead, but closer would be touching. Even touching isn't close enough. When it is close enough I get a "scan failed" message after 2 or 3 seconds 5 out of 6 times. When it fails it advises me to wait 10 min if I've been outside in the cold or heat. But it doesn't tell what ambient temperature it's calibrated for. I keep my home on the cool side in winter, so it may never be accurate for me.

Three stars because it seems to work, but the interface is not good. It'd be considerably better if it integrated the camera to help you figure out where you're pointing the thermometer and whether you're close enough to the target. With the Tensor CPU, it'd even be possible for the camera to detect objects and automatically set/suggest material types for them.

It works reasonably well. The temperature sensor is based on infrared, which means that the temperature reading is heavily dependent on the material's emissivity. I was hoping there would be a mode that allows you to explicitely set the emissivity correction factor, but it looks like the "Select a material" dialog is as good as it gets. It's still nice to have this in my pocket nonetheless.
