It's really frustrating that you need to install this separate app in the first place, but even more so that it seems to be broken on modern Google-created devices like my Pixel 6. It simply failed to work with my first-gen Chromecast. When I pulled out my old Nexus 5 it was able to successfully recover the device, but that's a terrible user experience.

Yeah pretty garbage experienced, after you turn the Wi-Fi off and your device is found go back into your settings and then turn the Wi-Fi back and then hit connect to device. Then you will be able to proceed with actually being able to connect a device. Not sure why that's such a large glitch. Shout out to the other review who solved that! If that doesn't work for you try full resetting your Google home mini and then doing the wifi trick.

Don't bother, it won't work. I installed this to "activate" a first gen Chromecast that worked perfectly well. After an infuriating workflow that requires me to turn off wifi, knowing full well I'll have to turn it on again, all I get is "could not communicate with your Chromecast." No additional troubleshooting, no attempts to explain the problem. I even factory reset the thing, to no avail. So don't waste your time. This app doesn't do anything.
