Google Play services is used to update Google apps and apps from Google Play.

Google Play services also enhances your app experience. It speeds up offline searches, provides more immersive maps and improves gaming experiences.
Apps may not work if you uninstall Google Play services.

This core system app has improved dramatically over the last 4 years. It's far more optimized, wasting less battery but gradually integrating an increasing range of other (previously separate) Google apps/components without becoming too bloated. It's apparent that a lot of genuine effort has been made here. I just hope the play store team will eventually do the same. My only current complaint is the inability to disable play games notifications (brief/popup style). Anyway, nice work devs!

What Else is there? I am new to using this type of thing, even if it has been a couple of years. I know of nothing else that does the job of setting me up to use Netflix, Stan and YouTube on my TV and this does it so well and easily, even if, ironically, I'm doing this rating after setting up my Chromecast app again due to technical difficulties I suffered whilst asleep and this morning couldn't get it to work. Never really had any problems using the services, the background stuff is for functionality purposes so if it makes my device run correctly then great. Some stuff you can turn off in permission controls but you may notice apps don't behave the way they should but at least the option is there. The payments systems always transfer correctly and securely, no errors or crashes that I've ever seen.
